How long does trademark registration take in India?

Trademark registration in India generally takes several months. It can take longer if the registry raises an objection or a third party opposes the application.

Can I use the ™ symbol before my trademark is registered?

Yes. You can use the ™ symbol once your application is filed, while registration is pending. The ® symbol is reserved for marks that are fully registered.

What is the difference between a trademark, a patent, a copyright and a design?

A trademark protects a brand name or logo. A patent protects an invention. A copyright protects original creative work such as writing, software, art and film. A design registration protects how a product looks.

How long does each kind of protection last in India?

A trademark registration lasts 10 years and can be renewed every 10 years. A patent lasts 20 years. A design registration lasts 10 years and can be extended by 5 more.

How much does trademark registration cost?

The cost has two parts: the government filing fee, which is set by the Trade Marks Registry, and our professional fee. We quote the full amount after a free consultation, before you commit to anything.
